James Macmillan, conductor
Jörgen Van Rijen, trombone

Benjamin Britten: Sinfonia da Requiem
James MacMillan: Trombone Concerto
Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 ”Scottish"

James MacMillan, the season's theme composer, leads a journey from darkness to light with works close to him. Completed in 2017, his melodic and melancholic Trombone Concerto has been described as agonising, apocalyptic, and serene as well as heartbreaking and utterly unrestrained. Benjamin Britten composed a combination of requiem and symphony for the memory of his parents in the dark shadow of the Second World War. The evening culminates with Felix Mendelssohn's ever-popular Third Symphony, inspired by the hilly moors of Scotland.

The concert is part of the orchestra's subscriber series, which includes a Pre-concert talk (Teokset tutuiksi) at 6 p.m. and childcare (Lapsiparkki, 10 €) at 6:45 p.m.

The concert has an intermission. The concert ends around 9:15 p.m.

Tickets: Adults 30 € / pensioners 24 € / students, unemployed and conscripts 15 € / children under 17 years 10 €. You can buy tickets from the Tampere Hall ticket office, Aplodi and the Lippupiste online store (Lippupiste adds service fees and possible shipping fees to ticket prices).
