Tampere Philharmonic 95 anniversary year begins!: Emperor and Lemminkäinen
Join us for a concert by the city's very own orchestra!
Matthew Halls, conductor
Paul Lewis, piano
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor”
Jean Sibelius: Lemminkäinen
Paul Lewis and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra’s Beethoven series culminates in a monument of skill and emotion: the “Emperor” concerto, with which the deafening composer responded to Napoleon’s cannon fire. The work captivates with its dazzling virtuosity and classical beauty, values for which Lewis’s interpretations are renowned. Sibelius’s Finnish nationalism blossomed in the Lemminkäinen Suite. Its story tells of a hero who conquered death.
