Malla Vivolin
Malla Vivolin is a flutist, pedagogue and occasional columnist based in Tampere. She is the co-principal flute of Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, the flutist of the Grammy Award-winning Uusinta Ensemble, and a faculty member at the Tampere Universities School of Applied Science’s Music Department teaching flute majors and coaching the orchestral academy. Her articles have been published in magazines such as Musiikki and Muusikko magazine, as well as by the Finnish Flute Association (Suomen Huiluseura). Vivolin is particularly fond of flute auxiliary instruments and extended playing techniques, the latter of which she is researching in relation to musical narrativity and embodiment in her doctoral thesis at the DocMus Doctoral School of the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki. In her free time, she enjoys immersing herself in a good book or hiking in the forest.
